contemporary art in jerusalem

a visit to the israely museum in jerusalem can give you a good view about the contemporary art situation in the global art trading.
a real good choice from europe to us and middle east make up the most of the new aquired works. one of the many works is an installation from aernout mik _called organic escalator, 2000_, see video below. michael elmgreen and ingar dragset are part of the new work with a quite poetic installation work called _ somewhere in the world it's four o'oclock; just a single wrong move: blocking the view_, 2004 . the collection is very diversified exploring very simple subjects like computer animation to complex social relations. another installation work (or not) is _the jungle book project_, 2002 by pierre bismuth. some youngester just crashed to get a nap in the space. not a bad ideia, actually. the israely museum in jerusalem is more like a city.

ali mahdavi and alopecia universalis
Ali Mahdavi
Born in Tehran in 1974, but now living in Paris, Ali Mahdavi is a filmmaker and designer of costumes that are extravagant affairs inspired by French Catholicism and Mahdavi’s Persian heritage. From silver cloaks to opulent purple robes stitched in gold, these strange outfits tread a fine line between high church and camp. After completing his studies in Paris at L’Ecole Nationale des Arts Appliqués Duperré, Mahdavi worked for the French fashion designer Thierry Mugler. In 2003, Mahdavi had his first solo exhibition at Scout Gallery in Hoxton Square, East London.

Tous Les Autres S’Appellent Ali
Ali Madhavi has Alopecia Universalis, a disease that deprives him of hair and his film focuses on those who are similarly afflicted. “I have been compared to all the bald people on earth….yet all I need is a wig for all resemblance to evaporate. No longer having hair violently changes our relationship with others, and the rules of seduction, desire, and one’s love-life are deeply disturbed, especially if the illness manifests itself before adulthood. Having lived through the same pain, shame and thus the same arrogance, I was convinced that we would all have the same feelings. Yet I was forced to notice while working on this project that even if, like a faltering army of clones or extra-terrestrials, we belong to the same race, deep down we are all just as different from each other as if we had hair and our lamented eyelashes and eyebrows.”

superflex vs. 27th sao paulo biennale

things are getting hot downunder at the 27th bienal de são paulo and it is not because the summer, which is about to begin, it is because superflex was invited to paricipate in the biennale but was not allowed to show the work it wanted to guaranapower. but this whole censure is working, in favor of the project. the director of the fundação bienal de sao paulo said that the reason way they could not accept the work is that this project is not artistic enough. but the whole thing is proving the foundation wrong. the galeria vermelho did put up the show power guarana ,extra, for the superflex project it will be interesting to see what will happen in the near future.

shape without form, shade without colour, paralysed force, gesture without motion
Galleria Francesca Kaufmann hosts a true and original homage to the art of portraiture. The exhibition focuses on works that portrays the subject beyond its physical appearance. Artists such as Pae White, Dave Muller and Allan Kaprow have based their representations on the uniqueness of the model. White gives the viewer the chance to choose the hue of his chandeliers and, in this sense, the work reveals itself as a portrait of the viewer’s.
Dave Muller leaves his model the task of compiling a top ten of his favourite L.P.s and includes the spines of the records in the painting. Kaprow shows Scores, where the person is almost reduced to a machine, performing a set of actions.
Tom Burr and Lorna Macyntire portray cultural characters from the past that the author hasn't met directly. Both Burr and Macyntire avoid traditional commemorative styles of portraiture and instead features details that are only part of the subjects whole. (carlo prada)

where you can see more of the show then in the gallery's website.

banana trauma

to prevent banana trauma
we need just get tha lovely sculpture looking fake banana
that will keep any banana from get traumatized.
isn't it cool.
FAQs about banana guard
Q: "Not all bananas are the same size or shape, so how can the Banana Guard fit them all?"
A: The Banana Guard was specially designed to accommodate the majority of banana sizes. Our testing indicates that over 90% of commercially available bananas will fit into the Banana Guard. Highly curved bananas can be straightened ever-so-slightly without harm to fit the Banana Guard shape. The opposite holds true of very straight bananas....
Q: "How can I clean it?"
A: The Banana Guard is made of a polypropylene plastic that can be safely placed in a dishwasher....
Q: "Is there a battery attachment?"
A: No. The Banana Guard was designed for its intended purpose only as a device to prevent banana trauma during transport.

I work for Starbucks as a shift supervisor, and another barista I work with told me about this site...i am SOOO glad that she did. This is the perfect place for me to vent!!! I despise my manager, he is the biggest jerk you will ever meet. Firstly, he shows SOO much favourtism it's unbelieveable. My friend (who works with me) gave her sister her partner discount on a drink, and my manager found out and he wrote her up!! (apparatnly you can only do it when you are on break). Then this psycho other shift supervisor (whom my manager LOVES) rang thru a girls drink as a partner beverage (free drink) when she wasn't even working!! I was the manager on duty at the time and I didn't want it to come back to bite me in the @$$, so I told my manager about it, AND SHE DIDN'T GET IN ANY TROUBLE!! So I called partner resources (third party that listens to you bitch about how much you hate your job and foreards it to human resources) to complain about my manager, and it's been 8 weeks and I haven't heard of anything being resolved. Let's just say I am in the process of finding another job. My manager is racist (he favours people of his nationality, and only hires people of his naitonality...i was hired by another manager). So much for that respect and dignity guideline....

vanessa is back to her roots

amazing that vanessa beecroft realized this new romantic, art historican, work. very close to home, it evokes, la bella italia, in a way that only catellan would approved of. tell me what you think about it.
teresa's death_line

teresa margolles at the duesseldorf kunstverein
was very simple not much to see but a lot to question and feel with the mistress of brutal formalism. i think they spected dead bodies from teresa but they just got dead treads. bravissima.
art and duesseldorf

what a contrast we have in this town, i never saw so much homelesness in a such a rich place. dusseldorf wants to have a big art event a quadrienale. a big art evente very for years just to be in the safer side. very clever. but the atmosphere is not of a big celebration, really.
the city is booming but the disparity between social economical situation are very presente. no much solidarity aparently.
the photo above could be a installation by elmgreen and dragset but i am quite sure it is the work of some homeless people. this park very near to k21 and the opera was full of them. see photo below

he show from francis baconwas quite impressive.
the bruce newman exhibition was quite ok, but you can see that it is a gallery show not a really great retrospective, as he really deserves fro his work. this show is related to the prize (€E250.000) that he was awarded by the city. in this case they are buying the prestige to have an artists getting their prize, nothing new in the art world but still a provincial attitude.
the worse part of this quadrienale is the pavilion by lupertz. is quite sureal to see next to the bilding where is bruce newman show. but the caravaggio exhibition i can not even talk about it, just for you to have an idea we could not see it till the end. enough is enough.
with friends from the kunstverein we went to a small exhibition space. i asked some artists what they think about of this spetacle that the city try to pull off. they said that the local artists are the ones that do enjoy it the less, because they can not be part of it at all.
